
Sam O'Connor
professional poker player - author - columnist.Our resident poker expert, Sam O'Connor, has been a professional poker player for over half a century. Sam resides in Las Vegas - "the poker capital of the world" and can usually be found playing in the $1 and $2 or $5 and $10 cash games. Sam O'Connor is a college trained accountant yet he focuses his teaching on the people part of no limit holdem. Sam's favorite saying is "Poker is not a card game played by people. Poker is a people game played with cards."
Sam O'Connor dealt the first Texas Hold'em game in Nevada, at the Golden Nugget, in 1960. Since then he has played against the likes of Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, Bill Boyd, Titanic Thompson, Slim Lewis, Henderson Al, Puggy Pearson, and T.J. Cloutier. Some of Sam's most recent adversaries have been Susie Isaacs, Tom McEvoy and WSOP bracelet winner, Chris Moneymaker.
Sam O'Connor is the author of "How To Dominate $1 and $2 No Limit Hold'Em", one of the best selling poker strategy books of 2007. Sam is currently working on a follow up to "Dominate" plus a collection of fictional short stories based loosely on his experiences hustling poker during the 1950's and 1960's. Additionally, Sam writes a monthly poker strategy column for Poker Pro Magazine.
Sam recently appeared in the Warner Bros movie Lucky You. You can watch him draw out on Eric Bana with a nine on the river. After he draws out on Eric, he gets to flirt with Drew Barrymore.
These days, Sam O'Connor is spending some of his time teaching the new and talented local players. Some of his students are now competing successfully on the tournament circuit. Others are coming along nicely.
